Evidence and Gap Maps (EGMs) allow us to consolidate and visually represent the quantity and nature of the existing evidence in a particular research field. The maps show how much (or little) evidence exists, not whether the interventions studied were effective. For effectiveness and other details, see our Intervention Reviews.
The Geographic Evidence Maps provide a visual overview of the countries included in the Evidence Portal. They plot the countries where interventions have been evaluated.
The world map provides a visual overview of how many studies within the portal come from each high-income country, drawing information from where an intervention was implemented. Studies that were implemented in multiple places have been counted for each country.
Evidence and gap maps (EGMs) give us a visual overview of and easy access to a consolidated body of evidence. Our EGMs map evaluations of interventions that aim to address and end violence against women to give the audience a rich understanding of the state of the field.
The EGMs can tell us information about existing evaluations, like the type of interventions, outcome measures, populations, research methods (and more) that have been studied. EGMs also answer important questions about the gaps in evaluation knowledge.
The EGMs support evidence-informed decision-making for addressing and ending violence against women. EGMs can be used to see what evidence exists to inform policies, programs, research, evaluation, and funding investments. They can also be used to see where gaps in knowledge exist to promote investment in new research and evaluation.
EGMs by nature are unable to comment on intervention effectiveness. This information can be found by exploring our intervention reviews. To learn how we created our EGMs, please see Methods.
